Should we have known better?

Last night was like any other night. Normal routine. We finally made it downstairs around 8:30 pm and I had to take on the mountain of dinner dishes before I could relax. I started washing. Not a peep from upstairs, not even Megan's room. Sometimes she just doesn't want to go to sleep and we hear her running around, changing her diaper, playing with her choo choos, "reading" books, until well into the night. Last night, silence. We were thinking she was asleep. When I finally finished the pots and pans (UGH!) I checked on both girls before I sat down and called it a night. Megan was just sitting in a corner, quietly.

... we're going on vacation and we purchased her a Peapod travel bed. We have it set up in her room so she can get used to it. She loves playing with it but has only napped in it once. Other than that, her dolls and trains are loving it ...

So last night, she was sitting between the window and the Peapod. I decided I should check on her because she was either a.) uneasy about something and needed to be tucked back into bed or b.) up to something.

I walked into her room and didn't say a word. She looked up at me with that toddler "Oh shit! I'm totally busted!" look on her face and immediately held up her hands and said, "Mama Dirty". Yes, her hands were dirty. As were her face, her hair, her arms, her jammies, her legs, the wall, and the peapod. All covered with Triple Paste. She had her diaper basket off her dresser and had been playing with the Triple Paste, Aquaphor, and lotion for who knows how long. I couldn't help myself and I erupted in laughter!! I told her we needed to go wash her hands ... and that's when I noticed she was no longer wearing pants or her pull-up either!! She Triple Pasted her self really good. She could have used the lotion. Or the powder. Or the Aquaphor. Or the No More Tangles. She could have used it all up but NOOOOOOOO! She goes for the $8 tube of diaper rash cream. *sigh*

So I have to ask, should we have known better? Is this just one in a long string of things we'll learn from our "guinea pig" first kid? Now that we know, we'll have to put Emily's out of reach but won't she just come up with some other way to get into something else? Probably. Until then, we'll just keep the cleaning supplies handy and hope for the best!
