Megan is the line leader!!
Getting a little one-on-on instruction.
Time to change from ballet to tap!!
Taking a break ...
Megan got a sticker!!
(it's on her hand)
Megan had her first dance class this morning. I was wary of spending the money on the class let alone the tap and ballet shoes, and a leotard (with attached tutu, of course). Parents have to wait outside for this class but the wall is half windows so we were able to watch the whole thing, which was kind of fun!! Those of you that know us know that my children have NEVER been left with a caregiver outside of the family. This was the main reason I was freaked out about what might happen at dance class today. Megan was such a big girl and did so well in a room full of strangers (OK - one adult and 7 other little girls). I explained to the teacher that she had never been away from me and that she was only 2.5 (yes, since she was the same size as the 4 year olds in the class I felt the need to note her age). The teacher said it would be interesting but was absolutely wonderful with Megan and all the girls. Halfway through the class they changed from Ballet to Tap and that's when Megan finally threw in the towel. I thought that was an odd choice of timing because she loves her tap shoes but ... that's when the tears started. The teacher picked her up and showed her that I was outside and she seemed to calm down but she did no more dancing from that point forward. She sat down in her spot on the floor and just watched. I felt so bad for her because she looked like she wanted to join in but she was just afraid. I'm sure the next couple classes will be better. Errr ... I'm hoping they'll be better. She starts pre-school in the fall and I would like her to be a little more comfortable without me by then. By the time class was over, and she had a sticker firmly pressed onto her hand, she was all smiles again. We don't go back until July 12th so we'll see how she does when we have to start all over again. Hopefully she'll have fun and we can do it again in the fall (get our money's worth out of the tap shoes - the size 10W tap shoes!!). By the way, those shoes were free through Zappos.com!! :) I'm not that crazy.
