17 Months Old

I can't believe Emily is already 17 months old!! She is growing up so fast and is definitely forming her own opinions and personality. You know when she's frustrated or angry because she starts throwing things and yelling and it makes me laugh sometimes. She has mastered the stairs, both crawling up and down. She spends a lot of time running away from Megan (in an effort to keep the toy she's playing with) but she also likes to do what Megan does. She'll say what Megan says, walk around in circles when Megan does, dance when Megan dances, she'll fuss when Megan fusses. I've learned if I have one of something, from snacks to toys, I better have two. Never a dull moment around our house. Em's diet is about the same every day. She doesn't drink milk or eat cheese so that's a problem. She drinks and eats a lot of yogurt every day to fulfil her dairy requirements. Every once in a while I can sneak in some milk or cheese but usually only a sip or bite before she's on to me. She doesn't like chocolate either (I know, she must not be my kid!!). She loves mixed veggies (plucking out the green beans of course) and just decided to eat them one day. She also loves chicken. Chicken nuggets, chicken strips, and even grilled chicken. She eats a lot of it so I change up her dipping sauces (ketchup, honey mustard, sweet and sour) to keep it fresh. Her favorite is still bananas and she has one every day. We've recently added applesauce to the mix now that I've relaxed enough to let her have the bowl and spoon to feed herself and she has finally decided to like mandarin oranges. She still won't eat raspberries, blueberries or strawberries but I'm sure it's just a matter of time and I haven't offered her any grapes or melon yet. She's still my smiley little girl.

With all the talk about Emily I don't want to forget to tell you what Megan did the other night. We actually were able to eat dinner together a few nights ago so I made chicken (I actually fried it - bad mommy!), mashed potatoes, mixed veggies and a big salad. Since Megan isn't a fan of any of that I also made her favorite mac and cheese, just for her. She ate a little of her mac and cheese then actually traded her bowl for James' bowl. Yes, my kid who picks unexpected pieces of lettuce out of her mouth when she takes a bite of taco or sandwich is eating a salad in this picture. She actually ate quite a bit of it.

The girls LOVE being outside and playing with water. We spent a lot of the weekend outside and it was HOT HOT HOT so naturally we had the water going. Em has probably been out there too much because her eczema has really flared up on her poor little legs. We had a tiny little pool for Megan the past two summers and we decided we needed a new one this year. I went to Target and bought this ginormous inflatable pool and the girls absolutely LOVE it. Obviously we don't fill it all the way up but it's fun for the girls to splash around in and they can sit or stand. There's also room for James and I to sit with them, and keep cool, so it was definitely a great investment. Mostly we "swim" after their nap so the pool is in the shade by then. Megan woke up from her nap Monday asking if we were going swimming. I felt so bad telling her no because I hadn't filled the pool!! We'll do it all again this weekend!!

They are getting so big! We definitely need to get the kids together for some play time. Tell James I said hello.
