Christmas Vacation

I say "Christmas Vacation" because James took two weeks off and we did a LOT of fun stuff during those weeks.  Actually, after Christmas was filled with visits to the docs for me, Megan, and Kaitlin, so most of the fun stuff was all before Christmas.

We'll start with what has become a Starke Family Tradition.  We went to Northpark to visit Santa and see the trains.  The choochoos are always a big hit with the girls but Santa ... well ... not so much.  My scanner doesn't work so I can't post our Santa pic on here.  I didn't take one with my own camera because, well, I was IN the Santa pic.  Neither girl would have anything to do with Jolly Old St. Nick so we made it a family portrait with Megan on my knee on one side and Emmy on James' knee on the other.  Too funny!

PERCY!!
James was there too but I didn't get a good pick of him.

Not sure why they felt the need to get so close to the glass ...

We watched Santa's story time from above.

After our visit with Santa, we went to see the ducks and turtles.

Next stop on our Christmas Week itinerary was Christmas in the Square in Frisco.  It was COLD but lots of fun, as it has been in years past.  The girls LOVED the lights and we even stopped in for a cupcake at Dimples (which is no longer there - booo!).   Our first stop in Frisco Square was at the train exhibit.  Another fun time looking at choochoos!  I don't know who was more excited ... Daddy or the girls!

The guy saw us pointing Thomas out to the girls so he brought him out of the roundhouse.
Those model trains are pretty cool.
No James, we don't have room. Sorry!

Outside the train display were a few hot air balloons.
They just set them up to glow, they didn't launch.
It was pretty cool anyways.

As always, we have to see the fountain.
I'm pretty sure we dropped in a couple pennies too.

We bought the girls the coolest light wands.
They had a BLAST sword fighting with them.

Next stop: Carriage Ride through Deerfield
It was a good way to see the lights but we did the short ride and it wasn't long enough.
The girls had some NumNums on the ride, can you tell?

Another new tradition: Baking cookies with Grandma.
Yes, Megan is chugging sprinkles.
Em was too.

Then it was time to eat some cookies.

See, they did actually help cut and decorate.

We also did a Gingerbread house.
Daddy did most of the work while the girls ate most of the candy.
I just got to be in the picture!

That's all for now.  I have pictures from Christmas Eve and Christmas Day but I think those will fill up a whole new post.  They're not the quickest to load, you know.  We had a lot of fun leading up to Christmas.  We're very lucky James was able to take the time off because he so rarely does during the year.  It is the most wonderful time of year.
