To Bathe ...

... or not to bathe. Actually, the question is how often to bathe? We have been giving Megan a bath every other night since she was a few weeks old. After her dinner tonight ... actually after all her meals and snacks today ... I decided she needed a bath even though she had one last night. Her hair was just crusty with juice, cereal bar, carrots, apples, chicken and noodles. I had to wipe her down from head to toe every time I put her in the high chair today. It's just gross. With how much she crawls around, she probably could use a nightly bath. It's just such a long process for some reason. I tried out a new routine tonight and she seemed to be OK with it. Instead of bath downstairs, then bottle on the sofa, then play a while before bed I took her upstairs for her bath (much easier in the smaller tub), gave her a bottle while I cleaned up the bath stuff, then put her right to bed. She didn't fuss at all. James usually does the bath but he's in NYC (hence all the late night posts) so it was all me tonight! Leaning over that tub ... out of control pregnant belly and all ... UGH! I don't know if James will like the new routine because he works so late. He doesn't have much time to play with her and he likes that post-bottle play time. I guess the kicker will be if there are any changes in her sleep pattern. She really liked being able to run around her room naked after the bath though! It was too funny!

Question for you mommies out there:
How am I supposed to keep the water out of her eyes when I rinse out the shampoo??
She's really starting to hate that and I don't want her to dislike bath time. Yesterday, she tried to crawl away from it and slipped under for a split second. That really freaked her out and I felt SO bad.

Feeding her has been a fight when it involves anything other than pureed foods or yogurt, or cheese and crackers. She LOVES feeding herself puffs and cheerios, she just bounces up and down when she sees them coming, but she pretty much just squishes everything else. She tried a blueberry muffin for breakfast but wanted nothing to do with it! I was really happy that she ate her whole cereal bar today. She made a face and spit out the first bite ... then promptly ate the whole thing. Silly girl.

Well, I'm tired, I haven't showered yet today and it's after 10. It looks like we might have rain tonight so the dog will keep me up. I have a sink full of Megan Dishes to wash and I really have to pee (for the millionth time today) so I suppose I should go. I think I'll run the dishwasher to wash all the Megan Dishes even though it won't be all the way full. I'll leave you with a pic of what Megan did tonight. She sure had fun ... but then I had to pick it all up. She didn't stop until the drawer was empty and then she started in on the cabinet next to the drawer.

Don't know if you were asking for advice on the bathing thing, but here is some if so...you can always bathe her every night if anything just for the routine and winding down, however if you're worried about the drying out her delicate baby hair you can always shampoo her hair every other night and only wet it the other nights to help rinse out any food. As far as the getting water in her eyes during the dumping...neither of my kids liked it, but I guess I'm a tough love fan, and kind of just did it anyways despite the whining. But I just poured a little here and there with breaks of fun playing in between so that it wasn't like look out...here comes the never ending waterfall. Both of them came to ignore and eventually like the hair rinsing so that I could do it quickly and be done. Good for you putting her down earlier. Mother nature is preparing you for the one on one time you will need with the new baby soon. Once the baby's here you will need to wrap Megan's day up a little earlier so you can move on to the sleep deprived stupor and newborn antics! I know it's takes a little away from James though..missing precious playtime, but come on...we all know Mom's sanity is much more important!

They sell this little pitcher at Babies R Us that has a soft form fitting rim, so you just put that on her forehead and doesn't get into her eyes. My sister got it as a shower gift and it was awesome! I make my boys just tough it out!
Enjoy the every other night now because soon they get so dirty you pretty much have to do it every evening. Well that is for boys and I am sure your girls will never get dirty!
Hope James had a good birthday!

Hmm- I go hand over eyes, dump water over head, and have a dry washcloth handy to wipe the face off afterward. No worries!

And dont tell the environmentalists, but I go with paper plates and bowls. No more dishwashers full of kid plates! With 3 kids, I seriously save like half an hour a day on doing dishes.
