We were supposed to go to the zoo today but landed at the Doc's office instead. Em took a little spill last night. I call it little because it could have been much worse. She must have missed the first step coming down the plank out of the little fort/tree house/"play structure" in the backyard and she face planted into the hand rails. She had quite a red mark and a little swelling around her eye but I didn't think much of it. She took a walk with us and was acting relatively normal afterwards (normal for Em includes a certain amount of fussiness). She woke up early and her face looked horrible. I was expecting a bruise and some swelling but I wasn't expecting ooze and a scrape. Poor girl! We decided it might be bad parenting if we went to the zoo before checking in with the doc. I don't want to take chances with my baby girl's eyesight. I felt like a bad parent holding poor Em down so the doc could put some dye in her eye and look in with an ultraviolet light. WOW can she scream! (I have no idea where she gets that.) I felt so bad. She screamed like that in the NICU when they tested her eyes.
Nothing was wrong with her eyes. I just have to put some neosporin on the scrapes and watch them for infection. Poor kid!! And we missed going to the zoo in this BEAUTIFUL, not at all typical Labor Day weather.
