I have to tell you that Megan's vocabulary has absolutely taken off. It's like something clicked in her head and all of a sudden she realized she can say words too!! I think she is so proud of herself when she says something that we can understand. She points to everything and wants us to name it (over and over and over and over) and we oblige (over and over and over and over). If I haven't mentioned it, she's not quite the talker a typical 2 year old ought to be. If you've spent any time with her you probably know this. Everything has checked out just fine so she's just a stubborn little girl refusing to use her words. Her absolute favorite thing to say is "cheese", whether she's posing for a picture or asking for mac n cheese for dinner (or lunch or breakfast or a snack). Other things in her ever-growing list of words are bowl, door, ball, doll, dog, cookie (mostly she just signs this one - all the time), more, juice, turtle, teetee, poopoo, and of course Mama and Dada (usually very loudly) and Em (which kind of sounds like she meditating "Ohmm". For some reason she has learned the color blue. She points out everything blue. No other colors ... just blue. It's such a funny little list of words that makes me wonder "really? why those words?" but I go with it. I am quickly realizing that Megan learning to talk might not be all it's cracked up to be. Like when she starts telling James, "mommy was drinking her special drinks for lunch" or "mommy didn't give us a bath when you were out of town". :-) It really has been fun to watch her ... blossom ... for lack of a less-icky word. Along with the words she's also becoming less shy by the day. We met up with a new play group last week and she was really pretty outgoing with all the strangers around. Surprisingly, so was I. Now I'm on a mom's club kick so I just requested to join a second group. The first one is good and we'll continue to meet them but they do stuff all over the area and I was hoping for something a little more local. I could have millions of new friends by the time this year is over.
right.
have you met me?
We also had a big day last week when we toured the school I'm hoping to get the girls into in the fall. I say "school" but what I really mean is Kids Day Out ... and what I really mean is Mommy's Mid-Day Out Twice A Week to Grocery Shop Without Two Crazy Girls. :-) It's at our church and there's a point system and usually a wait list so hopefully they'll get in. Fingers crossed for me (er ... for the girls). Emmy was fussy at the end of the tour so she probably got us a two tenths deduction. (Too much Olympics?)
Emmy is doing great too. She can now climb up on the fireplace, climb up the stairs and will eat Cheerios as long as they're fed to her. She's warming up to chunkier foods so we're on our way to a normal diet. It will be nice once we get her off the bottles because they're such a pain to clean. Seriously, she's 13 (almost 14) months old and she's still using the Dr. Brown's bottles. Of course, she's still spitting up too. What's that all about? She's also starting a little interactive play. She was feeding me some blocks today!! Of course, that means she wants more of my attention. Attention Megan's not too willing to give up.
Megan is now in her toddler bed. We converted it last weekend and she did just fine. She enjoyed her new found freedom in the beginning and was piling books and toys into bed but has since been using her bed for sleeping. I don't think she gets out at night once she's tucked in but occasionally I'll hear her playing in her room during nap time. I'm OK with that as long as she's quiet and lets me rest ... er ... do laundry dishes and other housewife chores. She's so excited about her bed every time she sees it. It's cute! I'm glad we finally got that done since she's been too tall to stay safely in her crib for about 9 months now.
